Open Mic at Fuddruckers - Second Tuesday
Open mic, Second Tuesday at Fuddruckers

Second Tuesday

SDBS sponsors a local jam session, open mic & pick-up bands every second Tuesday at the Fuddruckers in Grossmont Center in La Mesa. Open mic and pick-up bands play from 6:30 to 9:00 pm, and this evening also features a popular informal jamming session, outside on the patio. If you want to perform, sign up in advance by sending an email to info@sandiegobluegrass.org, or sign up on site, space permitting.

Third Tuesday

Our third Tuesday event, held at New Expression Music Store, is a one-hour structured slow jam learning session led by music teacher Janet Beazley (6:30 to 7:30 pm). Effective March 2012, the fee is $5 per session for SDBS members and $10 for non-members (you can join SDBS on site). For more information on the slow jam (photo below), or to sign up, email Janet. (Note: effective March 2012, the open jam has been discontinued.)

Fourth Tuesday

On the fourth Tuesday of every month, SDBS presents a featured band, a top local or regional band in concert for one hour, at The Boll Weevil Restaurant. The schedule for Fourth Tuesday is open mic & pickup bands from 6:30 to 8:00 pm; featured band from 8:00-9:00pm. Sign-up for open mic is the same as Second Tuesday (see above). Informal jamming throughout the evening also takes place outside.

Held once a month on Sunday afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. If you have an item you would like to bring to the Board, or if you would like to attend a Board meeting, please send an email to SDBS President Dwight Worden - visitors are welcome.


Saturday, June 30, 2012:
Bluegrass Day at the Fair
11am-8pm, Paddock Stage
.Mark your calendar now for this day of fun at the San Diego County Fair.

The day features 10 top bluegrass bands, a band scramble, and a kid's demonstration. All of this will occur on the beautiful Paddock Stage. If you have never attended a Bluegrass Day at the Fair be sure not to miss this one.

Bands: The day will include performances by these bands: Gone Tomorrow, Prairie Sky, Chris Clark and Plow, the Shirthouse Band, the Hilltop Ramblers, the Full Deck, the Taildraggers, Box Canyon, Rusty Gait and Old Town Road. We will be posting the schedule for the day shortly and you can check for it here.

Kids Demo: We are also planning a kid's demonstration to dazzle you with the talent of our local young people. We expect to present nearly 30 young people performing live on stage.

Band Scramble: There will also be a band scramble with prizes, open to all ages and all abilities. Whether you are 8 years old or 80, beginner or pro, you are welcome to join in the fun.We randomly put you in a band, and you have approx. 15 minutes to work up two tunes which you will then perform on stage. Judges will award prizes for best band, best performance on each instrument - guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bass, and specialty (dobro, jaw harp, etc.), and best male and female vocalist. Vocalist must also play an instrument. (Sign-up details below)

Band Scramble and Volunteer Signup. To sign up to volunteer or to enter the band scramble at the fair, download the application form here. Sign up for the scramble or to volunteer before June 12 and receive a free fair admission pass, and while supplies last, a parking pass.

SDBS Special Events

SDBS presents a variety of special concerts and events throughout the year, including: Bluegrass Day at the Fair (San Diego County Fair, June), the Summergrass festival (3rd weekend in August), St. Mark's Bluegrass Concert (November), a spring and fall camp-out, plus periodic concerts of nationally recognized touring bands. SDBS also cosponsors many bluegrass-related events, including the Santee Wine & Bluegrass Festival, concerts at Acoustic Music San Diego, New Expression Music, & the Belly Up; a series of performances at County and City libraries, and the "Bluegrass & Beyond" concerts at the Del Mar Powerhouse, cosponsored with the Del Mar Foundation.
